Houghton, N.Y. - The Lakers allowed just a single first half goal, but Houghton made it stand up and Mercyhurst fell on the road, 1-0.

Julie Smith played a strong game in cage for the Lakers. She made a season-high 15 saves as the Lakers fell to 3-8.

The Highlanders' Kelly Mazzeo scored with an assist form Amanda Brenon at 19:21 for the game's lone score.

Houghton held a 15-to-12 advantage in penalty corners and outshot Mercyhurst 23-to-16. Of the Lakers 16 shots, 13 were on goal.

Mercyhurst will try to get back in the win column with a pair of games this weekend. The Lakers travel to Seton Hill on Saturday for a 1:00 PM game, with a Sunday tilt at noon at Bellarmine.
