No. 2 Bloomsburg Outlasts Mercyhurst Field Hockey

Sept. 28, 2007

Box Score

Erie, Pa. - Despite holding the nation's leading scorer Jamie Vanartsdalen without a goal, the Mercyhurst field hockey fell by a 5-0 score at Tullio Field on Friday evening.

Vanartsdalen, who entered the game with an NCAA Division II-best 20 goals, was kept in check by feisty Laker defense. She did, however, managed to register two assists on Bloomsburg's first two goals, which was enough, as the Lakers (3-7) managed just six shots in the game and only three of which were on goal.

Meanwhile, Bloomsburg (10-1) peppered junior goalkeeper Jen Macri with 31 total shots. Macri made eight saves, giving her 27 in her two starts this season. Bloomsburg held a 15-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Lakers kept Bloomsburg off the board until 17:34, when Brieann Wolffe scored her eighth goal of the year. Ashley Heckard increased the lead to 2-0 just before the half, and she scored her second goal of the game three minutes into the second period.

Liz Macready and Erin Hench added unassisted goals to cap the scoring for the Huskies.

Lake sophomore Emily Warren, who entered the game having scored four goals in the previous two games, recorded all three of Mercyhurst's shots on goal. Junior Courtney Monin made a pair of defensive saves.

Mercyhurst returns to action at Tullio Field on Sunday against East Stroudsburg. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. Prior to the game, Mercyhurst will be honoring its two seniors, Erin Kelleher and Nicole Rapacki.
