Mercyhurst Field Hockey Falls at Catawba, 4-2

Salisbury, N.C. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team received goals from junior Haley Brochu and sophomore Kristen Fogle, but the Catawba Indians, after jumping out to an early lead, held on for a 4-2 victory in their season opener at Salisbury, N.C. on Saturday.

The Lakers (0-2) fell behind just seven minutes into the game when Susan Hearn scored unassisted. Catawba (1-0) built the lead to 2-0 before Brochu cut into the lead with an unassisted goal 24:43 into the contest.

Catawba's Jill Archambault answered six minutes later, giving the Indians a 3-1 edge heading to halftime. Catawba picked up another goal seven minutes into the second frame, and Fogle tacked on her second career goal with just under eight minutes to play.

Catawba goalkeeper Heather Kick kept Mercyhurst off the board with 12 saves. Mercyhurst junior goalkeeper Jennifer Coleman recorded a career-high 10 saves for the second-straight contest.

The Lakers held a 9-8 in penalty corners, but was out-shot 19-16.

Mercyhurst returns to action Sunday at Division I Davidson. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
