Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst (1-0) overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Assumption (0-1) 3-2 in overtime in field hockey Friday night.

Assumption scored the only goal of the first half as Maura Strickland put the Greyhounds on top early. After being held scoreless during the first half, the Lakers scored two minutes into the second period on Haley Brochu's breakaway goal.

Vanessa Mourey would tally the Lakers' second goal midway through the second half to take the lead. The Greyhounds tied the score late in the second half with a rebound goal by Brittany Ford that sent the match to overtime.

Midway through the first 15 minute overtime session, Mercyhurst's Courtney Monin scored the winning goal on a breakaway.

The Lakers next game will be Sunday against Bentley at 10:00 a.m.
