Cecil Pilson has served as an assistant field hockey since 2005 and will enter his fourth season on the sidelines in 2008.

Pilson came to Mercyhurst College after assisting Janet Grubbs at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. He earned a degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise science and a minor in coaching from Longwood University in 2004. He began his coaching career with the Longwood Lancers in the spring of 1999. During his tenure, the Lancers posted a 75-17-1 record and reached the Division II Final Four twice in 2002 and 2003. During that time the Lancers were ranked in the top ten in the division each year. The Lancers also had ten players combine for nineteen All-American awards including three IWLCA Players of the year.

Pilson has been selected to serve on the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Rules Committee to represent Division II.

He played men's lacrosse and started between the pipes at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts, from 1996 to 1997.

Pilson also formerly spent seven years with the US Marine Corps Reserves. While in the reserves, he served overseas with Regimental Combat Team I during Operation Iraqi Freedom I in 2003.

Last spring, he finished his second season as the Mercyhurst head women's lacrosse coach with a 9-8 record, with every loss coming against top 10 opponents. While at Mercyhurst his team has had two USLacrosse/IWLCA All-Region Athletes, an Inside Lacrosse second team All-American, and the 2005 team was named an IWLCA National Academic Squad.
