Gordon Joins Mercyhurst Women's Basketball Team

Aug. 28, 2007

Erie, Pa. - First-year Mercyhurst women's basketball coach Deanna Richard announced the addition of Kelsey Gordon to the 2007-08 squad. Gordon joins the Lakers after playing the 2006-07 season for Richard at Olivet College.

At Division III Olivet, the 5-foot-5 Gordon appeared in 24 games and started seven as a freshman last season. She provided 20 minutes per game and averaged four points and two rebounds per game while totaling 32 assists and 25 steals from her guard position.

Gordon, the Cassopolis High School graduate and Vandalia, Mich. native, also displayed her shooting touch, hitting 35 percent of her 3-point attempts and sinking 20-of-26 free throws.

Richard will count on Gordon to make an immediate impact, as the Lakers lose four starters including leading scorer and two-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) First Team selection Julie Anderson from a team that posted a 6-21 mark.

Gordon also competed on the cross country team and was one of Olivet's top athletes on the track and field team as a freshman. She turned in a time of 13.83 seconds in the 100-meter dash posted the team's best high jump performance. At year's end, she earned a spot on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.
