Julie Anderson Named GLIAC Female Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

July 18, 2007

Bay City, Mich. - Mercyhurst College women's basketball graduate Julie Anderson was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) female Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the league's faculty-athletic representatives. Anderson joins Ferris State football player Mike Klobucher, who was named male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Anderson is one of the most decorated players in Mercyhurst basketball history. An ESPN The Magazine first team Academic All-American, she maintained a 3.985 grade point average while majoring in sports medicine. She started all 27 games as a senior and scored a career-high 29 points against Ashland. She led the GLIAC in steals and ranked in the top five in scoring, rebounding and free-throw shooting.

During her career, Anderson was twice named first team All-GLIAC and was on the GLIAC All-Defensive Team as a junior. She ranks fifth in career scoring at Mercyhurst, fourth in career rebounding and third in career steals and free-throws made.

Klobucher ranked fifth in the GLIAC in tackles in 2006 and was named Ferris State's Most Valuable Player. He earned a 4.0 grade point average in applied biology.

"We are pleased with the balance between academics and athletics in the GLIAC," Commissioner Tom Brown said. "These two student-athletes epitomize that balance."

Both Anderson and Klobucher will be entered in the Division II Scholar Awards regional ballot co-sponsored by Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
