Dec. 19, 2006
Erie, Pa. - In the second match-up of the year between the Mercyhurst and Le Moyne women's basketball teams, the Lakers dropped another game to the Dolphins, 60-55. Freshman Lindsay Whipkey led Mercyhurst once again with 14 points and nine rebounds in the loss Tuesday night at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
In the first half, Le Moyne College led by as many as 12 points to end the half up 32-20.
The Lakers battled back in the second half with an 8-0 run to cut the Dolphins lead down to 32-28 within the first 5:24 of the period. But Le Moyne answered with an identical eight point run to keep Mercyhurst at bay and to give the Dolphins another 12 point lead. The Lakers chipped away at the deficit to get within two points three times in the last three minutes of the game. Mercyhurst was forced to send Le Moyne to the charity stripe for three of the team's final four shots to end the game.
Senior Julie Anderson had ten points and pulled down eight total boards. Sophomore Stephanie Prischak scored eight points and pulled down six boards. Senior Katlyn Petit had four steals.
For the Dolphins, Kim Wagoner led with 21 points (9-of-12 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 beyond the arc) and four rebounds. Katie Dunn and Lindsay Carr scored 11 points and pulled down five boards apiece. Courtney Coryea had six blocks on the night.
The Lakers outrebound the Dolphins 43-39. However, the Dolphins shot 35.2 percent from the floor while the Lakers only shot 32.8 percent.
