Foster Top Finisher for Laker Cross Country at Great Lakes Regional

Edwardsville, Ill. - The Mercyhurst men's cross country team completed its season with a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships held in Edwardsville, Ill., on Saturday. Pacing the Lakers was senior Kenneth Foster's 33:25.25, which was good for 55th place overall. It completes a solid career at Mercyhurst and a 2007 campaign that included two runner-up finishes and one first-place finish. Freshman Ronny Whiting came in 121st place with a time of 35:41.00, and sophomore Tomas Bolger finished less than one second behind Whiting. Juniors Derek Hoerner and Michael Humphrey finished in 133rd and 134th to round out Mercyhurst's top five. As a team, the Lakers finished with 551 points, just behind Lake Superior State with 518 and well ahead of Kentucky Wesleyan, which totaled 721 points. Taking first place in the team race was Grand Valley State. Grand Valley, fresh off a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, placed four runners in the top five, and Nate Peck took first place with a time of 31:05.70. Peck was also the GLIAC individual champion. |
