Men's Cross Country Takes 12th at GLIAC Championships

Fairview, Pa. - With senior Kenneth Foster racing to a 53rd-place finish, the Mercyhurst men's cross country team finished in 12th place, ahead of Gannon, at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at Plesants Ridge Park in Fairview, Pa. The Lakers and Gannon served as hosts for the event. As a team, Mercyhurst finished with 304 points, while Gannon placed 13th with 378. The team trophy--for a sixth-straight season--went to Grand Valley State, which had four runners finishing in the top five. Grand Valley's Nate Peck captured individual honors for the third-consecutive year with a time of 25:21.55. He finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of teammate Robbie Young. Along with Foster, freshman Ronny Whiting placed 71st with a time of 28:19.27. Sophomore Tomas Bolger placed 86th with a time of 28:47.95, and junior Derek Hoerner placed 91st. Freshman Chris Strohm ran the 8K course in 29:13.34 and placed 99th. GLIAC Runner of the Year honors went to Peck for the third-straight season. The Freshman of the Year award went to Cameron Johnson of Ashland following a 17th-place finish. |
