Lakers Place Third at Le Moyne College Invitational

Sept. 30, 2006

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst men's cross country team finish third out of 13 teams in the Le Moyne College Invitational on Saturday, September 30th.

The Lakers scored 100 points against teams of all levels. Sunny Cortland finished first with 64 points. The only other GLIAC team at the even was Gannon University which finished seventh with 185 points.

Finishing first for the Lakers out of 132 runners was Kenneth Foster who finished with a time of 28:11 for seventh place. Josh Peterson finished nineth with a time of 28:16. Placing 16th was Matt Deragon at 28:43. Kurtis Billig ran 29:39 to place 32nd. Nate Smith and Jon Lyons finished a second apart at 29:49 and 29:50 to place 36th and 37th.

Other individuals in the race for Mercyhurst included Derek Hoerner who ran 30:29 for 55th place, Mike Humphrey in 60th place with a time of 30:37, Kevin Szczepanski with a 31:22 for 68th place, Andrew Rusnak with a 31:53 for 78th place, and Kevin Flanagan at 32:22 for 86th place.

The first five Lakers were only seperated by 1:49.

SUNY-Delhi's Ben Jackson placed first with a time of 27:18.

The Lakers continue their season next week at the Gannon Invitational on Saturday, October 7th.
