Feb. 19, 2008
Complete East Regional Rankings
Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst's Brian Pogel, Andy Lamancusa and Hudson Harrison were ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes for the second-straight East Regional Rankings. As a team, the Lakers held down the No. 4 spot. Pogel, ranked third in Division II at 149 pounds with a 28-7 record, has held the No. 1 ranking since Jan. 7. He has won 12 of his last 14 matches and recorded five pins and a major decision during that stretch. Friday, Pogel will match up against Pitt-Johnstown's Adam Whetstone, who is ranked fourth in the East Regional rankings. At 165 pounds, Hudson Harrison improved his record to 27-6 since the last ranking by winning 11 consecutive bouts. He is ranked sixth in the nation and will face the region's No. 2-ranked wrestler, Kyle Keane of Pitt-Johnstown, Friday. Sophomore Andy Lamancusa continued to hold on to the No. 1 spot at 157 pounds. He is 16-14 but owns wins over Gannon's Brandon Monin (No. 4) and Shippensburg's Dan Nauman (No. 2). Junior Trevor Gallo moved to No. 3 at 197 pounds. He has eight-straight matches to improve to 21-12 on the season. Junior Bryan Wolff earned a No. 4 ranking at 184, and red-shirt freshman Josh Shields dropped from second to third because he has been hampered with an injury and has not wrestled since Feb. 2. Also slowed because of injury is freshman heavyweight Nathan Sharp. Despite not competing since Jan. 26, he remains fifth in the rankings. Junior Payne Lint has won four matches in a row at 125 pounds and is ranked fourth. As a team, the Lakers are fourth in the region and 15th in Division II. They travel to Pitt-Johnstown, which is ranked second in the region and eighth in the nation, Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start. It is the Lakers' final dual of the season. |
