Laker Wrestlers Notch Two Dual Victories at Seton Hill

Dec. 20, 2007

Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst wrestling team rebounded from its loss to Gannon in a big way on Thursday in Greensburg, Pa., rolling to a 38-6 win over Mercyhurst North East and a 34-9 victory over Seton Hill.

The Lakers, now 2-4 on the season, won 15 of the afternoon's 18 contested matches. Against North East, the Lakers won four by fall and junior Bryan Wolff, wrestling at 184, notched a 18-2 tech fall.

Senior Hudson Harrison, wrestling up a weight class at 174 pounds, pushed his winning streak to a team-best eight victories with a fall over Josh Miller.

Junior 149 pounder Brian Pogel pushed his season record to 15-3 with a fall over Shaun Spath, and freshman heavyweight Nathan Sharp pinned Nick Maxworthy.

In the nightcap of the tri-match, the Lakers routed Seton Hill, winning all but match that was contested. Six of Seton Hill's nine points came from a Laker forfeit at 197.

Harrison earned his ninth-straight win despite wrestling at 174 instead of 165 by defeating Lewis Spadero by a 16-0 win technical fall. Pogel also extended his own winning streak to seven with an 18-6 major decision over Josh Voelker.

Braxton Scaletta, wrestling at 141 pounds, earned a 16-0 tech fall for his second victory of the day. Senior 125 pounder Payne Lint notched his second win of the afternoon as did Wolff (by forfeit) and Sharp with a 7-3 decision over Matt Galadyk.

Sophomore Andy Lamancusa at 157 pounds notched a 17-2 technical fall over Bill Landefeld for his second victory, as well.

The Lakers return to action on Jan. 5 when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to face a pair of Division I foes in Buffalo and Cleveland State.
