Kearney, Neb. - Results in PDF Format
Mercyhurst College seniors J.J. Zanetta and Zack Schafer completed their collegiate wrestling careers Saturday evening by winning seventh place matches at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Another Laker, freshman Andy Lamancusa, lost his final match of the year and placed sixth. All three Laker wrestlers were named All-Americans as the top eight wrestlers in each weight class receive that honor. Zanetta placed seventh by getting a forfeit victory over Nebraska-Omaha's Yasiim Bribieseca. Schafer won his seventh place match as well, defeating Ashland's Justin Ferguson 7-2. Lamancusa was the top Mercyhurst finisher at the National Championships this year, placing sixth in his weight class. He was defeated in the fifth place match by Wisconsin-Parkside's Bradley Becker, getting pinned in 2:39. Zanetta placed seventh at 141 pounds for the second year in a row, while Schafer placed second as a junior at 165 pounds. This year, wrestling at 174, he was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country. |
