No. 15 Laker Wrestlers Fall at No. 16 Findlay

Findlay, Ohio - The 15th-ranked Mercyhurst wrestling team received wins from Payne Lint, Brian Pogel, Hudson Harrison and Trevor Gallo but fell 22-12 to No. 16 Findlay Friday in Croy Gymnasium. It was Findlay's first dual win over the Lakers (9-13) since 2003, snapping Mercyhurst's streak of four in a row over the Oilers. Junior Payne Lint got the Lakers started at 125 with a 7-2 decision over Alex Schumaker. Findlay, however, took the next two bouts and a 7-3 lead before Brian Pogel, ranked third in Division II at 149, notched his team-leading 27th victory of the season. The match-up at 157 pounds featured a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers in Mercyhurst's Andy Lamancusa and Findlay's Antonio Guerra. Guerra, the two-time defending national champion received a scare but edged Lamancusa, 2-1. Harrison, ranked sixth in the nation at 165 pounds, picked up three more points for the Lakers with a 3-2 win over Justin Shannon before Findlay won three of the final four matches. At 197, Gallo defeated Andy Zalaiskalns, 6-5. Mercyhurst returns to Erie for a dual against Limestone at Gannon Saturday. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m. COMPLETE RESULTS |
