Mercyhurst Wrestlers Drop Three at Ithaca Quadrangular

Ithaca, N.Y. - The No. 12 Mercyhurst wrestling team was handed three defeats Saturday against stiff competition at the Ithaca Quadrangular. Two of the defeats came at the hands of Division I teams Binghamton and Eastern Michigan, and Ithaca, ranked No. 22 in Division III, topped the Lakers, 18-15. Eastern Michigan seven of the 10 bouts to edge the Lakers 29-9 in the opening session. Mercyhurst's Brian Pogel, ranked third at 149 pounds, earned an 8-4 win over Drew Lesko. Hudson Harrison notched a 6-1 victory at 165, and Trevor Gallo won 5-4 at 197. Against Ithaca, Harrison notched and Gallo eached notched their second wins of the afternoon, and red-shirt freshman Josh Shields made his return to the mat for the first time since Jan. 5 and picked up his ninth win in as many matches by a 4-2 decision. Heavyweight Kenny Bluska won 6-1 over Joe Goetz. Payne Lint, wrestling at 125, picked up his first win of the day in the 25-13 loss to Binghamton. Harrison and Gallo completed a perfect afternoon with 5-0 and 6-0 decisions respectively. The Lakers, now 7-12 on the season, host their first of two home duals of the season Wednesday, Feb. 6 against Ashland.
