Laker Wrestlers Win Two on Day One of East Coast Duals

Pembroke, N.C. - The 12th-ranked Mercyhurst wrestling team opened action at the East Coast Duals Friday by rolling past UNC-Pembroke and Anderson for a pair of dual wins. The Lakers, now 6-8 on the season, won the final four bouts to top Pembroke 24-14 in the opening session before routing Anderson, 40-3. Pembroke took the first three bouts to build an early 10-0 lead, but third-ranked Brian Pogel turned the tide at 149 pounds by pinning Aaron Hollifield in just 1:08. Sophomore Andy Lamancusa earned a major decision at 157, and Hudson Harrison, wrestling up a weight class at 174, notched a 15-2 major decision of John Henry Clemmer. Bryan Wolff kept the Lakers rolling with an 11-2 major decision at 184 pounds, and junior Trevor Gallo at 197 and freshman heavyweight Nathan Sharp each earned decisions to clinch the victory for the Lakers. Against Anderson, the Lakers won nine of the 10 bouts. Pogel picked up his second fall of the evening, pinning Nick DiCarlo in 2:08. Lamancusa pinned Isaac Stovall in just 32 seconds. Gallo also registered a fall, pinning Logan Watson at 2:30.
