Schonhoff Named CWPA All-Southern Division Second Team

Nov. 19, 2007

Erie, Pa. - For the first time in his distinguished Mercyhurst water polo career, junior Andrew Schonhoff was listed among the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Southern Division honorees. Schonhoff, a second team pick, was the only Division II athlete on honored.

This season, Schonhoff led the Lakers to a school record 14 victories and its second-straight share of the CWPA Southern Division, Western Region Championship. He produced the fourth-highest single season scoring total in school history with 48 goals and ranked first on the team with 55 drawn ejections.

He also tallied 11 assists to finish second on the team in points with 59. He also ranked 33rd in the nation in goals scored and was named MVP of the Division II/III Eastern Championships.

Through just three seasons at Mercyhurst, Schonhoff is already the career leader in goals scored (147), ranks third all-time in assists (52) and second in points (199).

Along with a 14-9 record, the Lakers posted a 7-1 conference mark. The team's only loss came by an 11-10 score to Gannon and Schonhoff played a key role in avenging that defeat later in the season by scoring eight goals against the rival Knights.

In a division that includes Division I powers in Navy, George Washington and Bucknell, Schonhoff is the first Laker to be a Southern Division honoree since Brad Armstrong in 2004.
