Annapolis, Md. - Gannon scored twice in each quarter to edge Mercyhurst 8-7 in the seventh place game at the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Southern Division Championships. The Golden Knights won the season series from Mercyhurst 3-2 as the Lakers closed the 2005 campaign with a 6-15 overall record and a 2-9 slate in the conference.

Seniors Chard Ward and Kyle Wilson had a pair of goals apiece for the Lakers while freshmen Jorge Montero, Oscar Calderon, and Andrew Schonhoff had one each.

The Lakers trailed 6-4 entering the final quarter but kept the game in doubt until the very end with a three-goal rally. Patrick Staab played the entire game between the pipes and was credited with six saves.

Gannon: 2-2-2-2=8
Mercyhurst: 1-2-1-3=7
