Salem International Outscores Mercyhurst, 17-10

Annapolis, Md. - Salem International exploded for seven second quarter goals and went on from there to defeat Mercyhurst 17-10 Saturday night at the Southern Division Championships. The Lakers dropped to 6-14 overall and to 2-8 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association. It was the second win for the Tigers over the Lakers in the last week. Mercyhurst led 4-3 after a quarter before the Tigers outscored the Lakers 7-2 in the second to take at 10-6 lead at intermission. Salem stretched the lead to 14-7 after three and the teams divided six goals in the last stanza. Freshman Andrew Schonhoff led the Lakers with five goals , senior Kyle Wilson had two, while sophomore Kevin Riordan, and freshmen Jorge Montero and Zach Bell had one goal apiece. Freshman Jeff Tullis (three quarters) and senior Patrick Staab (fourth quarter) combined for nine saves. The Lakers will play for seventh place at 10:45 Sunday morning.
