Annapolis, Md. - Navy opened a 10-1 lead at halftime and coasted to a 14-3 win over Mercyhurst Friday night in the Lakers' opening game at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championships. The Lakers dropped to 6-13 overall and to 2-7 in the CWPA.

The Midshipmen led 6-1 after a quarter and 13-3 after three periods. Junior Kyle Bogucki, sophomore Kevin Riordan,and freshman Andrew Schonhoff had the Mercyhurst goals. Both senior Patrick Staab and freshman Jeff Tullis saw action in goal.

Mercyhurst will play again Saturday night against the #2-seeded team in Bracket D. that team had not been determined at the time of this release.
