Men's Water Polo Cruises to Sixth-Straight Win
Oct. 19, 2007
Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's water polo team notched its sixth-straight victory and improved to 6-1 in the CWPA Southern Division, Western Region by routing local rival Penn State Behrend 16-10 at the North East Aquatic Center Friday evening. The Lakers outscored Behrend in all four quarters and led 5-2 after the first period. The 16 goals scored is the second-best total all season for the Lakers, matching the 16 scored against Gannon on Sept. 29 and just behind the 17 scored on Queens (N.Y.) in the season opener. Junior Alex Perry led the charge with four goals and one assist. Freshman Alex Moggridge totaled three goals and three assists, and junior Oscar Calderon finished with two goals and five steals. Junior Kevin Riordan and Jake Coin also scored twice. Freshman goalie Andy Sekulski totaled a career-high five assists and a career-high three steals to go along with 14 saves. With a 6-1 record, the Lakers stand tied with Gannon atop the conference standings. With a win over Washington & Jefferson on Sunday, the Lakers would be assured at least a share of the conference regular season crown for the second-consecutive season. Sunday's game at the North East Aquatic Center is scheduled for 12 p.m. |
