Oct. 15, 2006

New London, Conn. - Playing without a pair of starters for the third consecutive match, the Mercyhurst men's water polo team was unable to overcome a slow start in a 14-10 loss to Iona Sunday at the Connecticut College Invitational.

With Oscar Calderon and Jorge Montero nursing injuries, Mercyhurst fell behind 8-4 after two periods of play. The Lakers were unable to battle back in the third meeting between the two squads this year, eventually losing by four. Each team had won one of the previous contests.

Kevin Riordan continued his solid play, passing out four assists and adding a goal, a steal and two drawn ejections. Kane Ashton and Andrew Schonhoff each scored three goals, while Schonhoff added two assists, two steals and two drawn ejections. Ashton had two steals and two drawn ejections as well, tallying one assist. Zach Bell scored two goals and Jarrett Pivarunas posted one.

Kyle Bogucki made 11 saves in goal for the 10-5 Lakers.
