Lakers Run Winning Streak to Five with 9-1 Win Over Salem International

Oct. 13, 2007

Stats

Washington, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's water polo team recieved three goals and two assists from both Ashton Farrell and Nathan Steiner in a 9-1 victory over Salem International in Washington, Pa., on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Lakers run their winning streak to five games and improve to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the CWPA Southern Division, Western Region. Mercyhurst currently stands in a tie with rival Gannon for first place in the conference with two matches to play. The Lakers host Penn State Behrend and Washington & Jefferson to close regular season play on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21.

On Saturday, the Lakers blanked Salem through three quarters, and did not surrender a goal until the Tigers scored on junior Alex Moggridge, who was making his first career appearance at goalie.

Steiner and Farrell, with five points each, have now totaled 16 total goals in two games against Salem, while not scoring in any other game this year.

The Lakers won the match despite leading scorers Andrew Schonhoff and Alex Perry not scoring a goal. It is just the second time all year that both players did not score a goal in the same match.

Mercyhurst also received two goals and two assists from converted goalie Kyle Bogucki, and one goal, one assist and five steals from Trevor McIlwaine.

Freshman Andy Sekulski started the game at goalie, stopped three shots and made one save.
