Oct. 13, 2005
Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst rallied from a 5-0 second quarter deficit to defeat Penn State Behrend 11-10 Thursday at the PSB pool. The Lakers snapped their six-game losing streak while improving their overall mark to 4-9 and their conference record to 2-5. Penn State Behrend scored four unanswered goals in the first seven minutes and then added a goal early in the second quarter before the Lakers began their comeback. By the time intermission arrived, Mercyhurst had tied the game at 7-7. The Lakers outscored PSB 3-2 in the third and that proved to be the margin of victory as both teams tallied once in the final period. Freshman Andrew Schonhoff scored five times for Mercyhurst. Sophomore Kevin Riordan added three more while Jorge Montero, Kyle Bogucki, and Oscar Calderon scored solo goals. Jeff Tullis played the first and third quarters in goal while Patrick Staab played the second and fourth. Mercyhurst will conclude conference play next Tuesday when it hosts Gannon at 7:00pm at the North East Aquatic Center. The teams will be meeting for the third time this season with each team having won once. |
