Laker Water Polo Continues to Roll; Downs W&J, 14-5
Oct. 12, 2007 Washington, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's water polo team extended its winning streak to four with a 14-5 victory over CWPA Southern Division, Western Region foe Washington & Jefferson in Washington, Pa., Friday evening. Senior Kevin Riordan totaled nine points on the evening, scoring three times and handing out six assists to lead a Laker comeback effort. The win improves Mercyhurst to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play. After falling behind 2-1 in the opening frame, the Lakers took over, outscoring W&J 6-2 in the second, 2-0 in the third and 4-1 in the fourth to pull away for the win. Junior Jorge Montero tallied two assists and three steals, and junior Oscar Calderon chipped in two goals, two assists, four steals and three drawn ejections. Junior Alex Perry scored three times, giving him 26 on the season. Junior Andrew Schonhoff, who scored twice, has a team-leading 28 goals in 2007. Ryan Holt also added two goals and two steals to the Laker cause. In goal, freshman Andy Sekulski stopped 10 shots and recorded the first assist of his Mercyhurst career. Mercyhurst squares off against Salem International in a conference match-up at Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 10 a.m. |
