Slippery Rock Stops Mercyhurst, 16-7

North East, Pa. - Slippery Rock outscored Mercyhurst a combined 10-1 in the second and fourth quarters in claiming a 16-7 decision over the Lakers Thursday night at the Mercyhurst-North East Aquatic Center. SRU won for the second time this season against Mercyhurst and dropped MC to 3-5 overall and to 1-3 in the College Water Polo Association (CWPA).

After a 2-2 first quarter, Slippery Rock broke the game open by outscoring Mercyhurst 6-1 in the second period to take an 8-3 lead at intermission. After the teams evenly divided eight third period tallies, SRU extended its margin with a 4-0 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Zach Bell led Mercyhurst with three goals while Kyle Bogucki and Jorge Montero scored twice apiece.

Patrick Staab and Jeff Tullis shared the goaltending chores with Staab playing the first half. The duo combined for seven saves.

Mercyhurst will look to rebound Saturday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson for a noon tilt.
