Lakers Continue Winning Ways Against Penn State Behrend

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's water polo team won its fifth straight contest, defeating Penn State Behrend 9-7 in the Lakers' CWPA opener Wednesday.

Now 5-3 on the year, the Lakers took a 2-1 lead after one period and continued to play from ahead. After a 2-2 second period and a 2-2 third, Mercyhurst outscored the Lions 3-2 in the final frame.

Zach Bell and Andrew Schonhoff led the Lakers with three goals apiece, while Oscar Calderon and Kane Ashton shared team honors with two assists. Calderon also had three steals and Schonhoff had two drawn ejections.

Kyle Bogucki made four saves playing the first and third periods in goal. Kevin Riordan, seeing his first action as goalkeeper this year, had six saves in the second and fourth periods.

Mercyhurst, ranked No. 9 in the CWPA, will continue conference action Saturday at Washington and Jefferson beginning at noon.
