Mercyhurst Nips Queens in Overtime, 9-7, For First Win

Sept. 11, 2005

Princeton, N.J. - Mercyhurst got second period overtime goals from junior Kyle Bogucki and freshman Jorge Montero to turn back Queens College 9-7 in the final day of play at the Princeton Invitational. The Lakers, who bowed Saturday to both Fordham and George Washington, picked up their first win of the young season.

The game was close throughout. The Lakers enjoyed leads of 3-2 after a quarter, 5-3 at halftime, and 5-4 after three quarters before Queens forced overtime by outscoring Mercyhurst 2-1 in the fourth period. Each team scored once in the first overtime session before Bogucki and Montero settled matters.

Senior goaltender Patrick Staab played all the way between the pipes and totaled a dozen saves.

The Lakers will continue play Wednesday night when they visit Penn State Behrend.

Mercyhurst: 3-2-0-1-1-2= 9
Queens: 2-1-1-2-1-0= 7
