Lakers Avenge Loss To Fordham; Win Fourth Straight

Sept. 10, 2006

Stats

Princeton, N.J. - The Mercyhurst men's water polo team has things clicking on all cylinders. The Lakers completed a 3-0 march through the Princeton Invitational by defeating Fordham 6-3 Sunday. The win gives the Lakers a four match winning streak and avenges a 10-7 loss to Fordham a week ago at the Navy Open.

Mercyhurst jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one period of play and held Fordham scoreless until the third quarter. The teams shared four goals in the fourth period as the Lakers were able to hold on for the win.

Andrew Schonhoff finished off a stellar weekend with two goals, an assist, a steal and a drawn ejection. He totaled 12 goals in three matches at Princeton. Oscar Calderon also finished with two goals, while Kevin Riordan and Zach Bell had two assists each. Kyle Bogucki played the entire match in goal, saving 11 shots.

Mercyhurst, now 4-3 on the year, will host Slippery Rock in an exhibition Saturday before competing at Penn State Behrend September 20 at 7 p.m.
