George Washington Tops Mercyhurst, 18-8

Sept. 10, 2005

George Washington erupted for ten first-half goals, including seven in the second quarter, to turn back Mercyhurst 18-8 at the Princeton Invitational. The Lakers dropped to 0-2 in the young season.

GW opened a 3-1 lead after a quarter before outdistancing the Lakers 7-2 in the second for a 10-3 advantage at intermission.

Mercyhurst closed the gap to 17-7 after three quarters, but the Colonials finished the game and the Lakers by scoring six of seven goals in the fourth quarter.

Freshmen Andrew Schonhoff and Zach Bell scored three goals apiece while freshman Oscar Calderon and junior Kyle Bogucki added solo scores.

Both senior Patrick Staab and freshman Jeff Tullis played goal for the Lakers. Staab played the first half.

The Lakers will conclude play Sunday with a match against Queens College of New York.

Mercyhurst: 1-2-4-1= 8
