Curtis Robinette

Player Profile

Hometown:
Maumee, Ohio

Last College:
Slippery Rock '02

Position:
Head Coach

At Mercyhurst Since:
2002

Curtis Robinette became just the second head coach in Mercyhurst men's water polo history in the summer of 2002. He is responsible for all but two victories in school history and has quickly built the program into one of the strongest at the Division II level.

In 2006, he led the team to its first winning record in school history, breaking the school record for wins by five. This was a far cry from the state of the program when Robinette took over, as the team was winless in his first season. The Lakers also posted an impressive 5-1 mark in the CWPA in 2006.

The following season, Robinette's squad only continued to improve, posting another school record for wins in a season with 14-9 record and shared the CWPA Southern Division, Wester Region title for the second-straight season with a 7-1 conference mark.

With Robinette leading the way, the Lakers also won the Division II/III Eastern Championships for the first time in school history, and he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Coach and Andrew Schonhoff was named tournament MVP.

Also during the 2007 season, on Sept. 26, the Lakers earned their highest-ever ranking in the CWPA Top 10 poll at No. 7. The team finished the year ranked seventh in the entire nation in goals per game with 11, and 10th in goals allowed per game with 7.8.

Robinette, who graduated from Slippery Rock University in May of 2002, was a standout player for the Rockets. He was a four-year varsity award winner, captain for two seasons and was the recipient of the Dr. Richard Hunkler Water Polo Scholarship.

After four years of coaching swimming at both Slippery Rock and Toledo, Ohio, Robinette made his debut as a water polo coach for the second-year Laker squad. He also directs the women's team.

Robinette is a native of Maumee, Ohio.
