Lakers Fall to Lewis, 3-0

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst fell to Lewis University in three tight matches, 30-28, 30-26, 30-26. The Lakers fell to 3-18 overall and 1-10 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA). The Flyers improved to 10-15 overall and 3-7 in the MIVA.
Mercyhurst led by three early in the first game, 20-17, but the Flyers chipped away to tie the score at 25-25 and from there won the game 30-28. The Lakers never trailed more than four points through the whole match.
The Lakers were led by senior Nate Keegan with 15 kills and two aces for 17 points. Followed by freshman Jeff Hartman with eight kills and two digs for eight points. Junior Mike Palaschak had seven kills and three block assists for 8.5 points. Freshman Dave Newman had seven kills, one service ace, two digs, and two block assists for nine points. Senior Dan Kick had 39 assists, one service ace, and five digs.
Alex Vigansky, David Kelnhofer, and Drew Pickering led the Flyers with 12.5 points each. Vigansky had eight kills and nine block assists. Kelnhofer had nine kills, four digs, one block solo, and five block assists. And Pickering had ten kills, one ace, four digs, and three block assists. David Taylor had 38 assists.
Up next for the Lakers is the last home game of the season against conference rivals Ball State on Saturday, April 8 at 7:00 pm at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. |
