Quincy Completes Sweep Of Lakers
Feb. 25, 2007
Quincy, Ill. - The Mercyhurst men's volleyball team lost to MIVA opponent Quincy for the second time in three days, dropping a 30-26, 30-26, 30-22 decision to the Hawks Sunday. The loss completed a stretch of four road matches in four days for the Lakers, including a pair of contests against Quincy. The Lakers jumped out quickly in the opening game and back-to-back kills from Dave Newman, who led the team with eight kills, put Mercyhurst ahead 13-9. But Quincy would scored 10 of the next 11 points to pull out the opening game victory. Quincy used a 9-1 run midway through game two to pull away from the Lakers and the Hawks broke open a close 16-15 score in game three to finish the match. Newman also had a team-best .375 hitting percentage and four blocks, to go with an ace. Bryan Ritter finished with a team-high eight digs and David Hatten had 24 assists. Quincy improves to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in MIVA play, while Mercyhurst falls to 1-14 and 0-8 in conference. The Lakers are now off for two weeks before playing at national power Penn State March 9 at 7 p.m. |
