No. 10 Ohio State Downs the Lakers in Three

Erie, Pa. - The No. 10 Ohio State men's volleyball team improved to 10-1 on the season by defeating Mercyhurst in three games, 30-16, 30-18, 30-18 Saturday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers fell to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), while the Buckeyes improved their conference record to 2-0.

In game one, the Buckeyes led wire-to-wire. To begin game two, the Lakers took the lead early on with help from a few Buckeyes' errors. Mercyhurst held tight, trailing by just two points at 9-7, but Ohio State took control and ran away with the game. The Buckeyes continued to control the match in game three.

Dave Newman led the Lakers with six kills (.417 hitting percentage). Jeff Hartman contributed four kills and led the team with five digs.

Layne Dreven and Matthew Hankey led the Buckeyes with ten points each. Dreven had seven kills, two aces, one dig, and two block assists. Hankey also had seven kills, two aces, two digs, and two block assists.

Up next for the Lakers is another home match against Ball State on Thursday, February 15 at 7:00 pm.
