Lewis Defeats Mercyhurst in Three

Erie, Pa. - Tim Wagner led the offense with 15 kills and Mike Palaschak registered one of the best blocking efforts in school history, but Lewis escaped the MAC with a 3-0 win over the Mercyhurst (30-22, 30-23, 30-27) on Friday. The Lakers drop to 0-8 on the season, and 0-3 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA). Lewis is not 8-3 on the season and 3-3 in the MIVA. Games one and two went in similar fashion as the two teams battled until the Flyers put together late runs to jump out to the 2-0 lead. Down 25-20 in game three, the Lakers stepped up their blocking to come back to take the lead at 27-26. Mercyhurst registered had four blocks in a row - all involving Palaschak - and five within seven points. Wagner led the Lakers with 15 kills, two digs, and four block assists. Joe Montroy and Dave Newman had six kills each. Palaschak had eight total blocks (one solo and seven assists) for the fifth highest blocking total in Lakers history. Jared Dayton and Drew Pickering led Lewis University with 11 kills a piece. Nick Perakes led with 11 kills on the night. Up next for the Lakers is Ohio State on Saturday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. |
