Lakers Ready To Open Season This Weekend

Sept. 7, 2006

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College men's tennis team steps into action this Saturday and Sunday with two home matches at the Westwood Racquet Club. Laker Head Coach Ray Yost expects a very solid team this year as he brings seven new players into the fold.

With returning GLIAC player of the year Mariano Fava and second team all-GLIAC performer Lee Michael Marnik, the Lakers will be well represented at all positions.

"Mariano and Lee will give us two very talented and experienced players in the top two positions," Yost said. "They are two of the top talents in the GLIAC and the new players will give us strength all through the line-up."

The Lakers will begin their off-season schedule with a match Saturday at 1 p.m. against Hobart College and will follow that up with a 1 p.m. encounter on Sunday with Ithaca College.

Positions three to six will be very competitive with Mijo Cotic, Ronald Heurich, Alfredo Mortensen and Mateusz Przybysz battling for positions. Also expected to be contenders are Justin Tompkins and Kyle King.
