Three Lakers Named To All-Conference Team

April 24, 2007

Bay City, Mich. - Mercyhurst seniors Mariano Fava and Lee Michael Marnik, along with freshman Mateusz Przybysz, were named to the 2007 All-GLIAC Men's Tennis Team. Fava and Marnik were named to the first team, while Przybysz received second team honors.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Fava has gone 16-6 this year and went 5-2 in conference play during the regular season. Pairing up with Marnik at No. 1 doubles, Fava has posted a record of 22-1 to go with a 7-0 conference mark. The combo has won 18 straight doubles matches. In the conference tournament, Fava was unbeaten, winning all three doubles matches and the only singles match that was completed.

Fava has had a distinguished career at Mercyhurst, posting a career record of 49-18 in singles play and 56-12 in doubles play during his three seasons with the Lakers. He is a three-time first team All-GLIAC performer and was named GLIAC Player of the Year in 2006.

Marnik, the Lakers' No. 2 singles player, went 18-6 this year and 5-2 in conference play. Alongside Fava at No. 1 doubles, Marnik has posted a nearly unblemished record this year, having not lost since the ITA Regional Tournament in September. After being named second team All-GLIAC each of the past two years, he earned his way onto the first team this year. He has a career record of 62-31 in singles and 69-26 in doubles.

Przybysz has added tremendous depth to the Mercyhurst lineup in his first year with the Lakers. He is 11-5 in singles play and 12-5 in doubles, posting identical 6-1 conference marks.

Mercyhurst went 14-7 on the year and completed conference play with a 5-2 mark during the regular season. The Lakers are currently ranked No. 4 in the region and are awaiting word on a possible bid to the NCAA Playoffs.
