Men's Tennis Loses To Division I Duquesne
Oct. 15, 2006
Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team lost for the first time this fall, dropping a 7-2 match to NCAA Division I Duquesne Saturday. Lee Michael Marnik put together a strong performance for Mercyhurst, winning both of his matches on the day. He was strong at No. 2 singles and posted a 6-3, 6-4 win. He then combined with Mariano Fava to stun Duquesne's No. 1 doubles team 8-5. Fava almost pulled out a victory himself at No. 1 singles. After losing the opening set, he bounced back with a 6-4 victory to send the match to a deciding third set. Duquesne's Michael Ortega had just enough to outlast Fava 7-6 (7-4) in the clincher. Mercyhurst, now 3-1, will be off until the spring season when the Lakers open by hosting Carnegie Mellon and Niagara February 3-4. |
