Mercyhurst Loses Season Opener To Allegheny

Sept. 19, 2007

Box Score

Meadville, Pa. - Sophomore Kyle King came up just a few points shy of sweeping singles and doubles play, but the Mercyhurst men's tennis team lost its season opener to Allegheny College 8-1 Tuesday.

King teamed up with freshman Adam Marnik to post a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles, but that was the only point for the Laker team. After moving into singles play, King won his opening set at No. 5 singles 7-6 but dropped the second set 6-4. Playing in a super tiebreak third set, he lost 12-10.

Mijo Cotic and Ronald Heurich played a competitive match at No. 1 doubles but came up short 8-5. Heurich also challenged his singles opponent early at the No. 4 spot but came up on the short end of a 6-4, 6-1 defeat.

Mercyhurst, now 0-1 on the season, will compete in the ITA Regional Tournament in Midland, Mich. beginning Thursday.
