Laker Men's Tennis Still Unbeaten After Defeating Ithaca
Sept. 10, 2006 Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over Ithaca Saturday. The Lakers were paced by a dominant top of the lineup in the victory.
Mariano Fava took a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while Lee Michael Marnik won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The pair also cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 singles, Ronald Heurich rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Both Kyle King and Justin Tompkins battled to singles wins as King won 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), (10-7) in a super tiebreak third set and Tompkins came away with a 7-6 (7-1), 0-6, (10-5) victory in another super tiebreak. The pair also rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Mercyhurst will be back on the courts Tuesday with a match at Allegheny at 4 p.m. |
