Midland, Mich. - Mercyhurst senior Mariano Fava won singles and doubles matches but the Laker men's tennis team was defeated by Grand Valley State in the conference semifinals 5-2 Saturday.

Fava and Lee Michael Marnik beat Grand Valley State's Adam Sandusky and Tony Dang 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but Grand Valley won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles.

In singles play, Fava beat Sandusky 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 but Mercyhurst was unable to pick up any other victories. The No. 3 and No. 5 singles matches were stopped once Grand Valley picked up its fifth team point.

Mercyhurst is now 14-6 on the year and will take part in the third place match Sunday at 10 a.m.
