Lakers Shut Out Huskies in GLIAC Quarterfinals
April 21, 2007 ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst picked up a 6-0 win over Michigan Tech to advance to the GLIAC semifinals in Midland, Michigan. The Lakers won all three doubles matches and each of the three completed singles matches. Two doubles pairs for Mercyhurst (14-5, 5-2 GLIAC), Mariano Fava and Lee Michael Marnik and Mijo Cotic and Kyle King, won 8-0. Fava and Marnik made short work of Brett Girard and Rick Halverson at first doubles, with Cotic and King turning back Brandon Ellefson and Alan Parenteau at second doubles. At third doubles, Mateusz Przbysz and Ronald Heurich were 8-4 winners over Chris Calder and Matt Tronnes. Marnik, Cotic and Heurich each won in straight sets to finish off the Huskies (7-16, 2-5). Marnik was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at second singles Halverson. Cotic defeated Justin Foley, 6-4, 6-1, at third singles and Heurich won both sets by 6-3 at fifth singles against Calder. Mercyhurst was seeded third in the tournament, with Michigan Tech owning the six seed. With the win, Mercyhurst advances to the semifinals to face Grand Valley State at 2:30 p.m. |
