Lakers Blank Michigan Tech To Pick Up GLIAC Win

Houghton, Mich. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team got its second GLIAC victory of the year by defeating Michigan Tech 9-0 Saturday. The Lakers swept all three doubles matches and dropped just one set on the way to winning all six singles matches.

Kyle King and Ronald Heurich had the easiest doubles match, picking up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik won 8-5 at No. 2 and Tim Hansson and Mateusz Przybysz won 8-6 at No. 1.

Mercyhurst dominated singles play, winning in straight sets at every spot except No. 1. Przybysz had a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 and Cotic added a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Marnik won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and Heurich won identical 6-3 sets at No. 5. King had a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6.

The only match that was hotly contested came at No. 1 where Hansson won the opening set 7-5 but dropped the second set 6-2. He battled back to dominate the deciding set 6-1.

Michigan Tech falls to 3-14 on the year and 1-5 in GLIAC play, while Mercyhurst improves to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC. The Lakers will try to reach .500 in conference when they play at Lake Superior State Sunday at 10 a.m.
