Cotic/Marnik Get Lone Win In 8-1 Loss To No. 19 Northwood
March 29, 2008
Midland, Mich. - Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik defeated Northwood's Bertrand Vigouroux and Matt Tansil 8-4 at No. 2 doubles Friday, but the Mercyhurst men's tennis team lost to No. 19 Northwood 8-1 in GLIAC action. Although Northwood swept singles play and won the other two doubles matches, Mercyhurst made it interesting against the conference power. Ronald Heurich and Kyle King almost upended Alex Minicozzi and Carlos Canudas at No. 3 doubles, eventually falling 8-6. As well, the Lakers had opportunities in singles play but were unable to get any victories. Marnik won the opening set of his singles match at the No. 4 slot, but struggled over the final two sets against Minicozzi in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 loss. Freshman Tim Hansson played competitively against Peter Kazianschuetz at the top of the singles lineup but Kazianschuetz won the critical points late in a 7-5, 6-4 win. Mateusz Przybysz also hung tough at No. 2 singles but lost to Pierre Martiner Bot 6-4, 6-3. Northwood improves to 6-2 on the season and 4-0 in GLIAC play. The Lakers fall to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference. Mercyhurst will be back on the courts Saturday at noon playing at Wayne State in another conference match. |
