ERIE, Pa. - Mariano Fava and Lee Michael Marnik upset Teddy Mebounou and Marius Broek at first doubles, but No. 9 Northwood captured the remaining eight matches to defeat the Lakers at the Westwood Raquet Club.

Fava and Marnik took a 9-7 win at first doubles to claim Mercyhurst's only point. The team of Mebounou and Broek was ranked No. 4 in Division II and No. 1 in the Great Lakes Region and Mebounou is the No. 1 singles player in the nation.

Marnik nearly forced a third set at No. 2 singles, but Henryk Seeger won a tiebreaker, 7-4, to claim the match.

The Lakers fall to 8-4 overall after dropping their GLIAC opener.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Friday, March 23 with a match against Lake Superior State at 3:00 PM. Michigan Tech visits the Westwood Racquet Club the following day at 1:00 PM.
