Ferris State Hands Lakers First GLIAC Loss

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team fell to 1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 7-2 loss to No. 39 Ferris State Saturday.

Mercyhurst's wins came at No. 1 and No. 6 singles where Tim Hansson and Kyle King each picked up victories. Hansson picked up a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Lewis DeGeneault at the top of the lineup and King battled through three sets for a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win.

Ferris State swept all three doubles matches and won each of the four middle singles matches for the win. Mercyhurst's Adam Marnik took his opponent to three sets before losing 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Ferris State is ranked No. 3 in the region and improved to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Mercyhurst falls to 4-5 and 1-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers have almost two weeks off before playing at Northwood March 28 at 5:00 p.m.
