Mercyhurst Sweeps Past Findlay In GLIAC Opener

March 14, 2008

Box Score

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Findlay Friday, defeating the Oilers in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener for both teams. Findlay entered the match ranked No. 9 in the Great Lakes Region, while the Lakers were unranked, but Mercyhurst made quick work of its opponent.

The Lakers rolled through doubles play as Tim Hansson and Mateusz Przybysz won 8-1 at No. 1 and Ronald Heurich and Kyle King picked up an 8-0 win at No. 3. Mijo Cotic and Adam Marnik battled through a tougher match but won 9-7 at No. 2.

Mercyhurst had even less trouble in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. The Lakers never lost more than three games in any of the 12 sets and Cotic had an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

The loss was Findlay's first of the year and the Oilers fall to 4-1. Mercyhurst improves to 4-4 and is 1-0 in GLIAC play. The Lakers will be back in action Saturday when they host Ferris State, ranked No. 3 in the region, at 2 p.m.
