Lakers Win Third Straight With Little Trouble
Feb. 27, 2007
Hilton Head, S.C. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team dominated singles play and rolled to an 8-1 victory over Augustana Monday in Hilton Head, S.C. The victory was the third in a row for the Lakers since heading South for Spring Break. Mercyhurst's only loss came in a default at No. 6 singles, but the Lakers made sure that did not matter. Mariano Fava led the charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Lee Michael Marnik won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 and Mateusz Przybysz won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Mijo Cotic staved off an early upset bid for a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 and Kyle King cruised 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5. In doubles play, Augustana posed a stiffer challenge, but the Lakers still overcame their opponents at all three spots. Fava and Marnik won 8-5 in their closest doubles match of the spring, while Cotic and Przybysz prevailed 8-4 at No. 2. Finally, King and Ronald Heurich polished off a doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3. Mercyhurst, now 6-2 on the year, will host St. John's Tuesday at noon. |
