Hilton Head Island, S.C. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 6-3 victory over York College Sunday. The Lakers won two doubles matches and then clinched the victory by taking four singles matches.

Tim Hansson and Juan Franco paired up at No. 1 doubles for the first time and cruised to an 8-2 victory. Ronald Heurich and Kyle King blanked their opponent at No. 3 doubles 8-0 to put Mercyhurst on top 2-1 heading into singles play.

Hansson, King and Franco also won singles matches in straight sets and Heurich clinched the team's fifth point with a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-1) victory at No. 3 singles. King cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 and Franco won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6, while Hansson battled to a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the top of the lineup. Both of York's singles wins took three sets.

York falls to 0-1 on the season and Mercyhurst improves to 1-3. The Lakers will play St. John Fisher Tuesday at 6 p.m.
